This past week I attended the International Patient and Family Centered Conference with gathered hundreds of physicians, nurses, researchers and patient and family advisors to discuss the importance of patient and family centered care.

Here are some of my takeaways from the conference

COLLABORATE–COMMUNICATE–INNOVATE

  • Our job as Parent Advisors is to incorporate patient and family voices to improve quality and safety.
  • As Parent Advisors we need to be included in the solutions. The motto of the Institute for Patient and Family Centered Care (IPFCC) is “Nothing About Us Without Us.”
  • We need to encourage parents and families to speak up, take active participation in their care.
  • We are here to ensure that all patients and families are receiving complete and compassionate care.
  • Through mutually beneficial partnerships with Healthcare Providers and Patients and Families we can make a difference!
